Anderson Interiors has launched a meaningful new sustainability partnership with the sewing room at Hydebank Women’s Prison, supporting both its Journey to Net Zero and the women developing new skills within the College.

As the team explored ways to reduce waste and return materials to the circular economy, unused fabric quickly emerged as the ideal starting point. With support from International Synergies, Invest NI’s resource matching service, the company connected with Hydebank College, where women in custody receive education, training and practical skills through Belfast Met.

The donated fabrics are now being transformed into dignity bags, created by the women for use when they leave prison. Instead of departing with belongings in a clear plastic bag, each woman carries a handmade bag she has sewn herself, an important gesture that supports confidence and dignity during reintegration.

As Senior Officer Michele McElnea noted, “Our efforts rely heavily on the support of companies like yours, and your kindness makes a significant impact.” The women have also begun producing laundry bags for use in their cells, addressing a long-standing gap in provision while further developing their sewing skills.

Anderson Interiors looks forward to continuing this partnership with the staff and women of Hydebank College and Prison, with the shared aim of creating lasting positive impact.
